The Treatment

The Magazine: O'SO Rockin'

Target Readership: O'SO Rockin is the latest Rock magazine which has a lot of good features. There is no age limit really for my magazine only people who enjoy listening to rock or heavy metal. This magazine attracts mainly the male gender but also famale who enjoy the music thi magazine has to offer. The magazine holds a large range of different topics such as exclusive interviews and about the latest albums etc.

Form and style: O'SO Rockin' shall be based on an A4 size and will include a contents page, interviews, advice on the best albums and other news. The colours will probably consist of darker colours but have a bright colour in different sections of the title so that people will reconize the colours I use. The magazine would not include arcticles about friendship or advice, but just mainly about the music. The magazine will influence people to listen to more bands or inform them about ones they have never heard of.

Potential advertisers: Some brands will be included in the magazine such as band shirts, band items such as jewelry, watches, CD's  ornamants etc.

Editorial Team: The editorial team for O'SO Rockin will be built up of the kind of people who enjoy the music and are experienced writers, therefore they now how to make a convincing article and can shere there true thoughts on Rock and Heavy Metal. The readers of my magazine will be able to share their thought on how good it was or what needs improving. The aim is to show the truth and opinions of what Rock and Heavy metal is all about.

Oh....and another textual analysis..

The popular metal magazine "Metal Hammer" does have the same sort of style as Kerrang. However this magazine only uses one large image of a band member, which highlights that the main article will be about him. Down both sides have sub headings in silver of other bands and artists about their latest news which could grab the readers attention. However for the main news, an orange flamey text is used at the top as well as the centre. The plain black background reflects the images and text well.

The contents page holds a lot of subtitles other other news as well as plenty of short quotes from interviews of ther bands. The contents page uses a lot of red on the side and for a lot of text, perhaps to symbolize blood, or evil which both could be assosiated with metal. It also uses four columns which are not the same length, the largest one being full of images to show the min a better quality.

One of the double pages of this magazine focuses on just one band and doesn't include any other sub headings. The image of the band members takes up most of the pages which shows you what they look like and gives you an idea of what sort of music they play. I feel the grey headings dont seem to stand out so well because it's difficult to read from the black background.

Another Textual analysis...

Q magazine has a less active and standing out title page which only includes one image. The image of which most rock fans would guess is ACDC's Angus Young, is set in the middle of the page which is where most of the focus goes to. I feel the grey background isn't so effective as it makes the magazine feel dull and boring. The Sub heading for the magazine "ACDC rock" is in black bold letters behind the image, which can still be recognised and understood. They still keep a slight contrast of red at the bottom to keep with the name of the magazine. The magazine doesn't include any other subheadings about other news to let them focus on the most important about ACDC.

The contents page has more images which features a lot more sub headings of other news. The contents page also shows what is on what pages. The colour is far different from the title page as it is a plain white background. Also shows articles of other artists at the bottom of the page. It also states the day the article was published which is November 2008.

Textual analysis....

Obviously there are hundreds of Music magazines all diffrent because of the music they focus on. I am looking at several magazines that have different genres of music and different colour schemes. I will be looking at how the front covers present bands, albums news etc.

The popular rock magazine 'Kerrang!' shows a lot of subheadings and a lot of images to show no negative space. The name has been slightly covered up from some images which shows that this magazine is easily recognized and doesn't have to show the full title to get the readers attention.

Along with sub headings it shows a banner at the top which lists names of different bands which could expand it's audience to people who listen to those bands. Popular bands such as Fall Out Boy are enlarged to show its popularity and convince more people to buy it if they like the band and want to know more.

The colour scheme in this one features black, white, blue and gold. The gold colour makes it seem almost valuable as well as it standing out. The black and white tend to go with the title making it more recognisable.
